OVERVIEW:
International exchange
Nat Faculty Fine Arts 3 (Tim Doling)International exchange involving the Lao arts training schools has thus far been extremely limited, largely because of the lack of foreign language skills amongst teaching staff and the absence of modern communication tools such as fax machines or Internet access.
The National Faculty of Fine Arts enjoys long-standing links with the Hà Nội University of Fine Art in Việt Nam, manifested largely through exchanges of delegations and co-operative projects aimed at developing its curriculum.
Nat Faculty Fine Arts 5 (Tim Doling)In recent years these links have been reinforced through close co-operation between the Lao Fine Artists’ Association (which now has an office at the city centre campus of the National Faculty of Fine Arts and functions as an E-mail contact point for the Faculty) and the Việt Nam Fine Arts Association, the latter involving annual reciprocal creative/exhibition trips by 10-20 member delegations from each country.
However, apart from the occasional residency or workshop by French artists funded by the Centre Culturel et de Coopération Linguistique (CCCL), Laos the National Faculty of Fine Arts has thus far had little opportunity to engage in international exchange activity involving European countries.
Nat School Music & Dance 8 (Tim Doling)While the National Faculty of Fine Arts has since 2004 been contactable via E-mail and fax, both the National School of Music and Dance, the National Arts Teacher Training School and the two Provincial Secondary Schools of Fine Arts remain isolated from a communications standpoint and are thus rarely able to participate actively in international exchange activity of any kind.
