When dealing with individual Lao artists, creative collaborations may be negotiated directly.

Where prospective collaborations involve government-run performing troupes, arts training schools or other cultural institutions, the involvement of the Ministry of Information and Culture and/or appropriate Provincial Services of Culture and Information (see Cultural policy and infrastructure - regional government departments) is often necessary to gain access to the organisation concerned and to facilitate the necessary procedures.

A recommended starting point for any international collaborative project or exchange activity is the Ministry of Information and Culture's International Relations Section, the staff of which speak English and can undertake all necessary co-ordination between an overseas organisation and its Lao counterpart.
