The Department of Research of the Prime Minister’s Office is responsible for (i) co-ordinating with concerned authorities in arranging all government meetings, Prime Ministerial level meetings or meetings between the Prime Minister and the Cabinet; (ii) assisting, encouraging and following up with all government agencies in drafting, screening and approving documents before they are submitted to the Prime Minister for approval; (iii) summarising and making suggestions to the Prime Minister on the activities and situations of government agencies with a view to improving their working systems; (iv) researching and providing all necessary information to serve the administration of the government; (v) translating foreign documents that may be useful for policy implementation in the Lao PDR; (vi) ensuring secrecy in relation to specific important documents; and (vii) organising workshops for important projects and inviting experts to submit solutions for their successful implementation. The Department comprises six sections: a Documentation/Synthesisation Section, a Legal Section; an Economic Section; a Cultural-Social Section; a Political Section; and a Local Section.
