Originally established in 1920, the Ban Pakanyung Martial Arts Troupe is the sole surviving exponent of an ancient martial art form native to Vientiane Province which is believed to date back to the era of the Lane Xang kingdom. The troupe currently comprises 13 members, including six males, four females and three master teachers. The troupe often performs on an open stage on the banks of the Nam Ngum River.
