May Chandavong, Mekong River EveningMay Chandavong was born in 1943 in Vientiane. Educated at the Thủ Dầu Một School of Applied Arts and the Sài Gòn National College of Fine Art in Việt Nam, and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, France, he has participated in many group exhibitions, both at national and international level, including most recently the ASEAN Art Expo, Thailand (2000), the Annual Exhibition of the Isaan and Lao Artists Group in Vientiane (2000), Bangkok (2001) and Khon Kaen (2004), the touring exhibition ’36 Ideas from Asia: Contemporary South East Asian Art’, the Philip Morris Group of Companies ASEAN Art Awards, Malaysia (1999) and Thailand (2004), and the Lao Artists’ Group Painting Exhibition in Hà Nội, Việt Nam (2004). May’s works may be found in individual and public collections in the USA, France, Germany, Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Việt Nam and Laos. In 1987 he won First Prize (Graphic Arts) in the International Exhibition of Fine Arts in Hà Nội, Việt Nam. His work is on sale at Mask Gallery in Vientiane.
