Established in 1968, the Lao Journalists’ Association functions as an umbrella organisation which brings together editors, journalists, producers, cameramen and TV and radio technicians with a view to sharing professional experience and organising training and development programmes for both editorial and technical personnel working in print and electronic media. In 2004, through an agreement with the Việt Nam Journalists' Association, the Vietnamese government agreed to fund the construction of a new office building for the Association on Thanon Setthathirat at a cost of some US$84,000. This new office opened in May 2004. When funds are available, the Association publishes the monthly Lao Mass Media Journal:
