The Lao People's Army Museum was opened close to the Ministry of Defence compound in Ban Nonesangthor in 1976. It contains a range of artefacts and photographs relating to the role of the Lao People's Army in the revolutionary struggle from its inception in the 1950s until the establishment of the People's Democratic Republic of Laos in 1976 and its achievements since that time. An armoured personnel carrier and a tank may be seen in the museum forecourt. A new museum is currently under construction behind the existing building and is scheduled to open in late 2005.
