Established in 1980 under the Provincial Service of Information and Culture, Savannakhet School of Fine Arts is subject to academic supervision by the National Faculty of Fine Arts in Vientiane. It recruits from amongst students aged 15-16 who have previously completed their general primary education and offers four-year intermediate or secondary level programmes leading a Certificate, with specialisation in either Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Art, Ceramics, Metalwork or Traditional Drawing. Completion of this programme is a prerequisite for admission to the five-year Diploma in Fine Arts programme offered by the National College of Fine Arts in Vientiane. The average ages of students studying at the school is 16-20.
