This 56-member national troupe of dancers, singers and musicians was originally established in 1955 at Viengsay in Houaphanh Province, and over the next 20 years played an important role entertaining the Pathet Lao resistance at the front before becoming the national company in 1975. It performs the female classical dance lakhon nai and the male masked dance khon, folk music and dance, ethnic minority music and dance and international light music and dance. The troupe has toured widely overseas, visiting France, Spain, Sweden, Belgium, the USA and Australia as well as Asian countries such as Korea, China, Thailand, Việt Nam, Cambodia and Myanmar. The company includes several teachers from the National School of Music and Dance.
