Originally established during 1960s as part of the under Vientiane Teacher Training College, the Faculty of Literature comprises three Departments - French, English and Lao Language and Mass Communications - and five sections - Russian, German, Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean. Programmes offered include a five-year Bachelors degree programme in Lao Language and Literature, and - to be launched in the 2005-6 academic year - a five-year Bachelors degree programme in Mass Communications (Journalism). The curriculum for the latter will include both journalism and technical training in the areas of television, radio and press.
