The Department of Aviation is responsible to the Minister for the management of air space and air traffic control services; maintenance of all airports and navigational aids; airport security; compliance to the civil aviation legislation; planning of human resources development; administrative machinery of the Department; and enforcement of air regulation agreements. The Department also oversees the activities of the Lao Airports Authority, the Airline Improvement Project and the national carrier, Lao Airlines.
