The JSRC office in Laos opened in 1992. In order to maximise children’s capabilities and creativity, JSRC places emphasis on library development, with a focus on storytelling. JSRC has already built 10 libraries in Laos, at the same time establishing mobile libraries and training librarians. It has also printed and published picture books and picture materials for both children and teachers. In order to enable teachers to prepare teaching materials, JSRC makes and distributes easy-to-operate mimeograph printers. In Laos, 8,120 mimeograph printers have been made and distributed, along with the teaching materials such as charts of the Lao alphabet and maps. Training has also been provided to teachers to acquaint them with the mimeograph printers and teaching materials. JSRC has also built 17 schools in Laos, facilitating community participation in the process of school construction and organising teacher training in the school clusters. It has also supported Children's Cultural Centres in Laos which promote traditional culture and provide out-of-school learning opportunities for children and youth.
