 The Lao Handicraft Association was established in 2001 as an initiative of the partnership project between Chamber of Skilled Crafts Koblenz (Handwerkskammer Koblenz) and the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI), initially under the name Lao Handicraft Group; it was renamed the Lao Handicraft Association in 2003. The Association draws its membership from 63 agencies and organisations involved in the manufacture of silk and cotton textiles, wood carving and silver and gold decorative items, seeking to find solutions to common problems such as training, sourcing raw materials and identifying funds to expand handicraft businesses. It also organises the annual Lao Handicraft Festival in collaboration with the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI):
