Supported by the Centre Culturel et de Coopération Linguistique (CCCL), Laos, the National Short Story Writing Competition invites submissions from short story writers across the country. The 20 best entries receive certificates and in addition the 10 best entries receive awards. In 2004 the first prize went to Ygeng Philakon for a love story, the second prize to Vongsakda for a story about traditional silk weaving and the third prize to Somchay Chanthavong for a tale about family estrangement.
