Ingun Bjørnsgaard Prosjekt (IBP) was established by the choreographer Ingun Bjørnsgaard in 1992. One of Norway’s leading contemporary dance ensembles, IBP is organised as a foundation with a consulting board. The aim of the foundation is to produce and present productions based on a personal expression and representative of progressive dance and theatre on an international level.
IBP works with a core of artists, of whom many have collaborated with Ingun Bjørnsgaard on several productions. The artistic activity is project-based and the company members are freelance, working with others in addition to IBP.
The dancers involved in the project are some of the best in Norway. Their broad educational background and wide range of experience, from ballet to contemporary techniques, are prerequisites for Ingun Bjørnsgaard’s exceptional work and provide an open attitude towards movements, dramaturgy and design. The continuity in the collaboration between Bjørnsgaard and her dancers has formed a working atmosphere sensitive to demanding choreographic ideas, theatrical extravaganza and technical precision. The personal expression and bodily representation of each dancer are important parts of the company, since the productions are largely the fruit of collaborative efforts between the choreographer and the dancers.
The company’s economy is based on public funds granted to autonomous stage art productions by the Arts Council Norway. In addition, IPB is financed through a diversity of funding bodies, including co-productions and co-operations.
The company tours in Norway and overseas.
