The Jo Strømgren Company was founded 1998 in Bergen, Norway. This dance group has a repertory of 10 productions which has toured more than 30 countries, and about 80 performances are presented annually in collaboration with both permanent and temporary co-producers. Acclaimed by audiences and critics and credited as innovative yet accessible, it has grown to become one of the most stable independent companies in Scandinavia. The aesthetic is characterised by an extensive blend of genres, use of absurd humour, exploration of gibberish language techniques and the use of actors as dance performers. With layers of dark psychology underneath ambivalent wit, the audiences are invited to associate freely upon storylines and symbolism. In 2002 the company also collaborated with Nordisk Film on the feature film Destination Moscow.
