Part of Việt Nam National University, Hà Nội Zoological Museum is located within the Department of Vertebrate Zoology of the National University of Hà Nội’s Faculty of Biology. It contains about 1,000 large mammal, 3,000 bird, over 400 fish, over 650 snake and some turtle specimens. Many of the specimens, including a mounted collection, date from the French colonial period. The museum also includes important regional material. At present the museum is poorly housed and needs support both to protect specimens and to make them more accessible to scientists.
