The final resting place of Việt Nam’s greatest figure of modern times forms the centrepiece of Ba Đình Square, where Hồ Chí Minh read out Việt Nam’s declaration of independence to the people on 2 September 1945. The Mausoleum was constructed with assistance from the former Soviet Union and inaugurated on 29 August 1975.
