Located some 14 kilometres from Hội An and 1.2 kilometres from Highway 1 on a road leading from the centre of Vĩnh Diện Township, this structure was formerly the central tower in a group of three. Constructed in monumental Bình Định style (late 11th-early 14th centuries), the 21.5 metre tower is noteworthy for its unusual octagonal shape. Considerable debate surrounds the age of the tower, but recent scholarship suggests that the complex was constructed by Chăm King Bhadravarman II in the late 9th-early 10th century, in honour of Linga Paramewsara (Shiva), an event recorded in a stele of the period recovered from the site. Outside the entrance door stand two large statues of Gajasimha, a mythical animal with a lion's head and an elephant's body. Inside the kalan there was formerly a standing linga. Numerous artefacts found at this site are housed in the nearby Điện Bàn Museum, which is also responsible for the upkeep of the site under the guidance of Quang Nam Provincial Centre for the Preservation of Monuments.
