Chien Dan Towers (Tim Doling)
Located on the west side of Highway 1 some 60 kilometres south of Đà Nẵng, this group of three east-facing towers was constructed in a transitional Mỹ Sơn A1-Bình Định style during the late 10th-early 11th centuries. The towers' sandstone bases feature elaborately-carved bas-reliefs and various excavations in the area over the past decade have unearthed numerous statues and other decorative fragments. During the most recent dig, carried out some 500-700 metres from this group in February 2002, archaeologists discovered an ornately-designed long house which may belong to another, separate religious site. The Chiên Đàn Chăm Towers Site Museum was opened here in 2001 to display some of the area's most important archaeological finds.
