![]() Constructed at the zenith of Nguyễn-dynasty rule, the tomb of King Minh Mạng (1820-1840) is regarded by many as the most beautiful of Huế’s royal mausolea. Set in beautiful surroundings close to the banks of the Hương River some 12 kilometres south of Huế, it consists of about 40 monuments of various dimensions, located within an oval-shaped wall 2,000 metres in circumference. A stele recounts the king’s life and achievements. Of particular note are the elegant Minh Lâu Pavilion and the Sùng Ân Temple where Minh Mạng and his queen are worshipped. This temple is currently undergoing renovation funded by the World Monuments Fund (WMF).
