 Located on the north bank of the Hương River, 500 kilometres west of the Thiên Mụ Pagoda, the Temple of Literature (popularly known as Văn thánh) was constructed between 1808 and 1815 and dedicated to Confucius. It was here that 32 stone stelae bearing the names of successful candidates in the national examinations were erected. The temple is currently undergoing restoration.
