The Office of Intangible Cultural Heritage Management is one of three key offices of the National Cultural Heritage Department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The Office is responsible for (i) appraising and submitting to the Minister recommendations for the nomination of intangible cultural heritage in the list of Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and World Living Human Treasures; (ii) overseeing the activities of preserving and promoting the values of intangible cultural heritage; (iii) appraising and submitting to the Minister recommendations to allow Vietnamese living abroad, international organisations and foreign researchers to carry out research and collect intangible cultural heritage in Việt Nam; (iv) preparing and submitting to the Minister draft regulations on typical intangible cultural heritage and recommendations for the recognition of artists who have contributed to the preservation and dissemination of typical intangible cultural heritage and overseeing their implementation.

Some recent international co-operation activities carried out by the Office in the area of intangible cultural heritage include: (i) collaborating with the UNESCO Representative Office for Việt Nam on a pilot project on the art of quan họ singing from Bắc Ninh; (ii) collaborating with Belgium’s French Speaking Community in Wallonie Bruxelles (CFWB) – Standing Mixing Committee in the implementation of the project 'Culture Journey to Traditional Craft Villages'; (iii) collaborating with the Smithsonian Institute (USA) in inviting various international experts and consultants to Việt Nam; (iv) and implementing a project to develop a databank of intangible cultural heritage management.

In recent years the Office succeeded in getting one intangible cultural heritage (nhã nhạc Huế) recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
