Hồ Chí Minh City Hát Bội Theatre was established in 1977 by a group of leading southern hát bội artists, including famous names from the years before 1975 such as actresses Năm Đồ, Ba Út, Lê Khanh and Kim Chắc and actors Thành Tôn, Minh Biện, Công Chấn and Châu Kỷ. It continues to receive students trained at the Hồ Chí Minh City College of Stage Arts and Film, Hồ Chí Minh City’s principal centre for hát bội training. Now based at the renovated Long Phụng Cultural Centre, known prior to 1975 as the home of hát bội, the company has a wide repertoire of plays which it presents at various venues throughout the city.
