Established soon after Reunification to produce public information films, the Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Film Studio was subsequently split into two separate institutions – the Hồ Chí Minh City Current Affairs and Documentary Film Studio (Xưởng phim Thời sự-Tài liệu Thành Phố Hồ Chí Minh), and the Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Film Enterprise (Xí nghiệp Phim Nguyễn Đình Chiểu). It became a single institution once again in 1997. The studio now produces mainly documentary films, including a weekly cultural programme for HTV 9 Television.
