Originally launched in 1995 as the Ramayana Festival, this annual staging of the Ramayana ballet in front of Angkor Wat involves participation by both the National Theatre Company of Cambodia Lakhaon kbach boran (Classical Dance) Troupe and overseas performing groups. In 2004 this troupe also performed in unison with a visiting French contemporary dance company, the Jean Claude Gallottta Dance Company (Grenoble National Choreography Centre, CCNG), allowing opportunities for artistic collaboration between the two troupes. The French dance company arrived in Cambodia three weeks ahead of the show in order to work with the Cambodian company. During the programme the Jean Claude Gallottta Dance Company performed its piece Blik with Cambodian dancers and to Cambodian classical music.
