The National Festival of Khmer Cuisine features dishes by the best cooks in each province of the Cambodia. The aim is to revive and promote the ancient Khmer gastronomic tradition represented on the bas-reliefs of the Angkor temples, which has long since dissappeared in urban areas where it is often difficult to tell the difference between Khmer, Thai and Chinese dishes. Funding is currently provided jointly by the government and external donors but to date insufficient funds have been raised to make the festival an annual event.
