This annual festival aims to preserve traditional music and theatre forms and focuses on the search for ‘living treasures’ (elder masters) whose skills can be passed down to the younger generation and the development of programmes which help young people to understand and appreciate their heritage. The festival was originally planned as an annual event, but due to financial and logistical problems it has so far taken place only in 1995 and 2000. The Directorate of Performing Arts is currently appealing for funds to make this festival an annual event.
