At the time of writing the National Film Archive comprises several dusty, unclimatised rooms in the Directorate of Cinema and Cultural Diffusion’s studio facility at 219 Street 200, and at 64 Street 200 and the adjoining house to the rear of it at 205 Street 208. Khmer films are currently stored at 219 Street 200, while a large collection of films from the former Eastern Europe are stored in all three buildings. Most films are stored in rusty cans and several have already been damaged by ‘vinegar syndrome’. Under a joint project led by Panh Rithy and funded by the French Government, 64 Street 200 will be renovated and turned into a dedicated National Film Archive. |
