Yokohama is the capital city of Kanagawa Prefecture. It covers an area of 437.35 square kilometres and has a population of 3,601,708 (Aug 2006), making it Japan's largest incorporated city. Yokohama is also Japan's largest seaport, and an important commercial hub of the Greater Tokyo Area. Popular tourist attractions include Minato Mirai 21, a futuristic new city area in central Yokohama consisting of office and residential space, hotels, shopping centres, restaurants, convention centres and public parks, and the restored Meiji-era Red Brick Warehouses of the harbourfront, which have recently been transformed into a pleasant shopping and community centre.
