The Japan Foundation Japanese Language Institute, Kansai was established as an affiliated organisation of the Japan Foundation in 1997, in response to further increased demands for Japanese-language instruction throughout the world. The primary focus is on language-training programmes designed for specific professional purposes for specialists, such as diplomats, public officials, librarians, researchers, and postgraduate students. Programmes for younger students are also provided. In addition, the Institute is responsible for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test conducted abroad. Accommodation is available for 140 students and other facilities are also offered.
