BTTOriginally established in the late 1960s as Engeki Centre 68/71, this troupe began touring and giving performances throughout Japan in a black tent, rather than a theatre. Am,ong their best-known works are ‘The Trilogy’, Kigeki Showa no Sekai (‘The Comic World of Showa’) and Nezumi Kozo Jirokichi (The Rat’). Since the late 1970s Black Tent Theatre has committed itself to the development of ‘Asian theatre’ in collaboration with PETA (Philippine Educational Theatre Association) and other Asian artists. It still tours Japan giving performances in various theatrical spaces of works written by members of its company and also undertakes drama exchanges with other groups throughout Europe.
This company is a member of the Association of Japanese Theatre Companies.
