Originally established in during 16th century, Wat Sayaphum has been rebuilt several times, most recently in 1906. Located close to the Mekong River in the centre of Savannakhet, the temple is the focus of Lao New Year, the Boat Racing Festival and Buddhist Lent celebrations.
