The Children’s Cultural Centre (CCC), Luang Prabang Performing Troupe was established on 2 February 2000, when Ipok puppetmaster Lung Ouane Phothiphanya trained CCC staff member and former dancer Senghchanh Phadith how to perform Ipok puppetry. Ms Senghchanh subsequently developed a simpler version of Ipok puppetry without the sacred ceremonies for CCC children to perform; although the story is closer to the original than that performed by the Central Puppet Troupe in Vientiane, the puppets are not exact replicas of the originals, like those of the Central Puppet Troupe. In addition to Ipok puppetry, the troupe also performs classical and folk music and dance, including khap thum. The Children’s Cultural Centre is currently seeking funds establish a dedicated performance centre on land at the rear of the Centre.
