At the time of writing the Lao Library Association remains a proposal pending the approval of the Ministry of Information and Culture. Once set up it will seek to promote and strengthen unity and mutual assistance among Lao library professionals, promote and strengthen library and information sciences education, training and publication, as well as education and culture in general, promote the establishment and further development of libraries in the Lao PDR, exchange ideas, knowledge and professional experience with other library associations in the region and the world at large, and act as a central agency for supportive assistance from individuals, organisations and institutions in order to achieve the association’s goals.
