The Music Information Centre Norway (MIC) is the Norwegian section of the International Association of Music Information Centres (IAMIC), Norway. MIC provides information and documentation on all genres of Norwegian music.MIC’s main goal is to work for increased use of Norwegian music, domestically and internationally. This task is, amongst other initiatives, accomplished through the publishing of their website, and the online music magazine Ballade http://www.ballade.no. MIC also publishes an English website that serves as a portal to the Norwegian music scene with news articles, information on composers, musicians and institutions. The centre is also a contemporary music publisher and runs an event calendar and an extensive address directory of persons and organisations in Norway’s music life.
In 2003, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delegated the administration of touring grants for professional Norwegian artists performing music internationally to MIC.
MIC was established in 1979, initiated by the Norwegian Society of Composers and Arts Council Norway. In 2003, MIC was reorganised. The new founders are the Norwegian Society of Composers, the Norwegian Society of Composers and Lyricists, the Musicians Union and FONO - Norwegian Independent Record Producers Association. The Centre is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs.
The Centre shares premises with the Norwegian Jazz Archives (NJA), the Norwegian Folk and Popular Song Archives and the National Library of Norway’s National Music Collection at the Solli Plass, Oslo.
