'The Man from the Sea' by Kjell Erik Killi Olsen (N). The Municipality of Boe, Artscape Nordland Photo: Vegar MoenArt in Nordland is responsible for all visual art projects undertaken in the name of Nordland County Council. It currently runs the following projects:
Artistic Interruptions - a new and innovative art project which brings together international artists and local players in Nordland County for conversation, debate and the development of a series of new site-related artworks. Some 20 municipalities in Nordland County have committed to serving as the arenas for artistic projects created with the active input of the local communities. The objective is to question the local context, the communicative ability and function of art in today’s reality, and to examine the theoretical aspects of the site specific as genre and strategy. An interruption can have the positive impact of sparking involvement and generating energy that can strengthen the already existing local potential. The project is initiated by Nordland County, Department of Cultural Affairs, Art in Nordland and supported by the Arts Council Norway.
Artscape Nordland - Nordland County has acquired a unique sculpture collection consisting of 33 works located in the same number of municipalities. With nature as their background, these works are permanently accessible to the public. This project is often discussed as one of the most interesting art projects to have been realised anywhere in the world in the past decade.
