The Alarm Awards were founded in 2000 as an alternative to the established Spellemann Prizes, and now constitute one of the main events for the younger generation of the Norwegian music industry. The Alarm Awards were originally closely associated with the by:Larm trade event, but in 2005 the two events separated, with by:Larm being staged in Stavanger and Alarm taking place at the 1,750-seat Sentrum Scene (http://www.sentrumscene.no), the largest of the Rockefeller venues in Oslo. The event has been staged at Sentrum Scene every year since.
The Alarm Awards are given on the basis of votes submitted on the Alarm website and nominees are put forward by a large group of music journalists.
