Established in 1999, the Øyafestivalen is held in Middelalderparken, the medieval park in the Old City district of Oslo. The festivals lasts for four days and camping for festival-goers is off site. The festival has a strong environmental policy, recycling as much as possible of the refuse generated by the event and champions 'green' issues. Musically the line up is mixed Norwegian and international acts. Previous acts include The Streets and Franz Ferdinand (UK), Air (France) and The Lemonheads (US). The music festival is accompanied by a film programme and there is a nightclub element in association with various local venues.
