The frame for the Happy Days Sound Festival is Oslo's largest shopping mall, Oslo City. By placing contemporary music in a commercial shopping area where audiences come to shop, not to listen to music, we aim to focus on the impact of contemporary arts in new public arenas. By offering free concerts to a shopping audience the festival will explore what conceptions the audience has on contemporary music, and what impact the concert surroundings have on the music. 'Contemporary Music for the people' is the festival slogan. There is also an off-programme at the sound gallery REKORD with debates regarding the relations between new music, capital, and the public.
