 Norway’s leading orchestra was founded in 1919 and is based at the Oslo Concert Hall. The Orchestra tours overseas extensively – past tours have included the UK, Switzerland, Japan, China, Taiwan and South Korea. Recordings include 30 releases on EMI and Chandos in addition to Norwegian labels. In 1998-99 the orchestra released several recordings (R Strauss, Stravinsky, Brahms) on Simax.Many leading conductors have been Music Directors, including Issay Dobrowen, Herbert Blomstedt, Mariss Jansons and André Previn. Its current Music Director is Jukka-Pekka Saraste.
