Trondheim Symphony Orchestra 2Trondheim Symphony Orchestra has enjoyed a long musical tradition. Up to the 19th century, Trondheim was the centre for sacred music, with many significant musicians settling in the area. Keeping pace with the expanding European music culture, several music societies were formed. The Trondheim Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1909. The development of the orchestra gained impetus with the Jubilee of St Olav in 1930. In 1947 the foundation of the Trondheim Chamber Orchestra signified the beginning of the modern professional orchestra. In more recent times the orchestra, with its 75 musicians, has established a solid position as an inspiring impulse not only for the local musical life but for the whole country. Successful tours in Germany, Austria, Spain and the Czech Republic have given the orchestra a good international reputation. The current Chief Conductor and Music Director is Eivind Aadland.
The Trondheim Symphony Orchestra presents weekly classical orchestral music concerts with well known soloists and conductors, but also does opera, ballet and jazz concerts, school concerts, and concerts for families and children.
The Orchestra often works with the Norwegian Opera and the Trondheim Wind Quintet.
