Anders Svor was born in 1864 on the Svor Farm in Hornindal. While still a boy he showed a remarkable talent for woodcarving and at the age of 17 he travelled to Kristiania (Oslo), where he worked as a wood carver at a piano factory. At the age of 21 he left for Denmark where he enrolled at the Copenhagen Academy of Art. His breakthrough came at the Berlin International Art Exhibition in 1891 where he won a gold medal. He later participated in many exhibitions in Kristiania, Copenhagen, Paris and Chicago. The Anders Svor Museum was opened in 1953 and features 450 of his works. His art is characterised by simple, clean lines and deep authenticity. His work has a naturalistic form, often with a romantic strain to it. In 1992 the museum expanded and the sculpture collection was given more space. The museum has a gallery with room for separate Summer exhibitions, see technical specifications below.
