OVERVIEW:
Dance

Even if it’s only through the pointy-toed, arms-aloft, Victorianised Highland variety, Scotland is famed as a dancing nation. ‘Small but nigh-on perfectly formed’ would be a fair assessment of its dance sector today, from the solid grassroots foundation of community and professional dance education that now covers all the main cities, through the widespread revival in traditional dance, to the critical and popular acclaim which has lately been heaped on the national contemporary and ballet companies. The healthy state of home-grown activity is complemented by regular visits from international artists and companies, and is well supported by a notably au fait Scottish dance audience.
A detailed overview of the Scottish dance sector will follow as soon as possible - contributions are invited from practitioners working in this sector, please contact Tim Doling at tim.doling@culturalprofiles.net.
