Boilerhouse, Sister SisterBoilerhouse is a Scottish touring theatre company which creates medium to large-scale work. Boilerhouse works with both conventional and non-theatre spaces, as well as the street and public spaces. It has three core staff and a Board of Directors.
Boilerhouse was founded in 1992 by Artistic Director Paul Pinson with the aim of creating innovative and accessible new work. Since then, the development of the company's work has involved a mix of new writing, site-specific work outside of theatre spaces and an increasing use of film. The company has performed in a variety of dramatically unusual indoor and outdoor locations, and enjoyed collaborating with a broad range of artists - ranging from famous novelists to aerialists, composers and pyro-technicians - to bring new elements to its work.
Boilerhouse has earned an impressive reputation for theatre work, and in particular for Headstate, a memorable collaboration with author Irvine Welsh, the award-winning Running Girl and the company's first large-scale street production Sister Sister. Recent years have seen the company successfully taking its work abroad for the first time.
The company produces 1-2 new shows a year, depending on the scale of the productions, and tours around the UK and Europe. Boilerhouse are strong supporters of both international touring and collaboration, and are currently touring Europe with a new a co-production 3600" with French company Metalovoice.
This unique medium-scale outdoor collaboration looks at multiple perceptions of time, through the eyes of people of all ages and nationalities. Following a Scottish premiere, the show is touring to festivals and events throughout the UK, France, Monaco and The Netherlands, with further dates to be confirmed. Other recent international performances include The Bridge in September 2005 at Les Accroche-Coeurs, Angers, France.
Future plans include further touring with 3600", a new one woman show Drenched, a large cast production Crash World and site specific work on a beach and in graveyards.
Boilerhouse would welcome approaches from overseas artists and also organisations interested in the creation of site-specific work.
