Arika 1Based in Glasgow, Instal is regarded as one of the UK’s key experimental music events.
Each year, Instal brings some of the most exciting, influential and important musicians working in experimental, outsider or underground forms. Each year it also takes care to offer as wide a spectrum as possible to the audience, choosing the most radical and defining artists from as diverse a range of genres as possible, taking care to present representatives of as many of the most uncompromising scenes.
In 2004 Jandek made Instal the site of his first-ever live performance, and in 2005 it featured sets from Sun City Girls, Japanese noise-wizards Hijoikaidan and the first UK performance from pioneering US composer Pauline Oliveos.
The programme for Instal is designed each year with the evangelical aim of introducing some of the most important artists working at the outer edges of contemporary music to an audience, in a way that make this music as accessible as possible, and allows international and UK artists to share the same stage and programme in a complementary way.
