Big in Falkirk (1)Launched in 2000, Big in Falkirk is an international festival held annually in the grounds of Callendar House, Falkirk.
The festival's artistic policy identifies the commitment of the previous Big in Falkirk festivals to nurturing and supporting artists through commissions for Scottish artists to work collaboratively with artists from elsewhere, and also seeks to commission highly acclaimed and established artists from all over the world.
Since its inception, Big in Falkirk has grown to become the single largest cultural event in the region, attracting audiences now in excess of 100,000 per year.
The artistic direction of the programme gives consideration to all forms of street arts and live music, and takes into account scale, accessibility, quality and value, while being conscious of the environment in which it is presented. These should include elements of professional activity, community programme and educational activity.
The festivals key objectives are (i) to associate the Falkirk area with innovation and cultural excellence; (ii) to engage its communities in celebrating and selling the area’s changing image; (iii) to create a festival that functions as an economic engine for the area through the attraction of visitors, and (iv) to capitalise on the area’s location and environment and its unique visitor attractions.
As the British representatives of European street arts network IN-SITU, UZ aims to commission new works to be showcased in Falkirk and toured internationally, and to work with international partners in creating new works to be performed on the festival circuit.
