Described by The Scotsman as 'one of the best youth theatres in Scotland' and as 'a cut above the competition' by the Edinburgh Evening News, the Lyceum Youth Theatre (LyT) is widely regarded as Scotland's leading youth theatre.
LyT was established in 1999, and since then has involved thousands of young people. Part of Edinburgh's prestigious Lyceum Theatre Company, LyT is committed to working to a high professional standard whilst providing a safe environment for young people to create, explore and learn drama and all its related activities and skills. 270 young people between the ages of 5 and 18 years old are actively involved in drama every week and LyT draws young people from Edinburgh City, the West, East and Mid-Lothians, the Borders, Fife and Glasgow. In its six-year life span LyT has undertaken over 1,000 youth theatre drama sessions, 32 full-scale performance projects and 62 school holiday performance courses.
LyT prides itself on producing exciting, relevant and contemporary young peoples' theatre. LyT has performed in over 15 major Scottish venues as well as the Millennium Dome and the Royal National Theatre, London. It has also showcased its work overseas at the De Åpne Teatre, Oslo (Norway), and in Seattle, Washington (USA). LyT is also regularly approached by leading British and International film, television and theatrical casting agencies and is now recognised as a reliable source of young Scottish-based talent.
