Originally built in 1904 as a gymnasium/drill hall, converted to a theatre by ENSA in 1942 and completely refurbished in 1989, the Garrison Theatre is a traditional proscenium arch theatre with one bank of 280 seats in a fixed shallow rake facing the well-equipped stage. Situated in the town centre, the complex is open throughout the year with a varied programme of visiting professional and community events. As well as hosting theatre, dance and music performances it provides a film programme showing popular first release films. A part-time lighting technician and stage crew is available.

Sound: Allan&Heath Wizard 16:2 mixer opeated from control room at rear of auditorium, 400w stereo audio system, 2 x 200w per channel stage monitors; Tascam 6-channel mixer operated from stage, 400w stereo audio system, patch panel, line amps, 20 stage inputs, reel-to-reel tape deck, cassette deck, CD player, minidisc player
Stage equipment: SM desk at prompt corner SL with intercom cue system, 10 outstations, 6 cue lights, show relay and tannoy to dressing rooms and control room
Film / video equipment: 35mm film projection equipment, Dolby sound system, motorised 6m x 2.5m projection screen, 16mm slide and video equipment available by prior arrangement
Backstage: 2 dressing rooms accommodating 20 persons, accessed by stairs, self-catering facilities; advice on accommodation available, no permanent technical staff but casuals available, backstage partially available to disabled performers and staff, chairlift to stage
