PlatformAn exciting new facility in the east of Glasgow. The Bridge is made up of John Wheatley College, the newly-refurbished Easterhouse Swimming Pool, the Library at the Bridge (successor to the former Easterhouse Library and Learning Centre) and a brand new purpose-built arts facility called Platform at The Bridge.
Programmed and managed by Greater Easterhouse Arts Company, Platform is a unique building which bridges the gap between the College, Library and Swimming Pool. With its timber cladbox and six silver chimneys it has a very distinctive appearance.
Designed to a high standard, the brand new arts centre comprises: (i) a 210-seat (650 standing) auditorium including a backstage workshop; (ii) a studio theatre; (iii) a spacious multi-media space comprising recording studio with practice rooms alongside video and sound editing facilities; (iv) The Den visual art and crafts room; (v) costume workshop; (vi) multi-functional meeting space; and (vii) a modern cafe bar with intimate performance space.
Platform hosts many different events ranging from nationally touring theatre companies and large scale music concerts to small bar gigs and visual art exhibitions. Platform is also a base for the National Theatre of Scotland and local performance company Visual Statement and works closely with Cranhill Arts Projects which provides an arts service including computing, multi-media, arts and crafts to people who are 8+ and live in Greater Easterhouse.
As well as programming workshops and performances in Platform, Greater Easterhouse Arts Company works with groups in the community on an outreach basis.
